For businesses within a 10-mile radius of Salem/Hope Creek Nuclear Power Plants: Listen for 3 to 5 minute steady siren blast. This signals the public to tune radios to an Emergency Alert Station (EAS) for instructions. If protective actions are directed, notify the Crisis Team Coordinator. There are two basic protective actions—sheltering and evacuation.

Sheltering Notification:

Ø Bring all persons inside building(s).

Ø Close all exterior doors and windows.

Ø Turn off ventilation.

Ø Cover up food not in containers or put it in the refrigerator.

Ø If advised, cover mouth and nose with handkerchief, cloth, paper towels or tissues.

Evacuation Notification:

Ø Crisis Team Coordinator notifies employees, guests and relocation center.

Ø Close all windows.

Ø Turn off lights, electrical equipment, gas, water faucets, air conditioning and heating system.

Ø Lock doors.

Supervisor responsibilities during evacuation:

Ø Account for employees and guests.

Ø Explain procedures to employees and guests. Instruct employees to take belongings.

Ø Ensure that lights, electrical equipment, gas, water faucets, air conditioning and heating system are turned off.

Ø Make and place an “Evacuation” sign in window.

Ø After arriving at relocation center, account for all employees and guests again.
