Sponsored by Delaware Emergency Management Agency, this course is presented by the National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center, a division of the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security - Office for Domestic Preparedness. Instructors are from the Texas Engineering Extension Service, Texas A&M System. Using full-sized human patient simulators, this course teaches emergency personnel of many disciplines to properly perform patient triage, treatment, and transportation in the event that individuals are exposed to chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and/or explosive weapons.
This is a three-day, credited course for medical personnel including doctors, nurses, and emergency medical service responders. Thursday, Jan.20, is a day of hands-on training for those enrolled in the course. Included in the Jan. 20 curriculum are field classes and clinical situations using state-of-the-art, computer-driven human patient simulators. Instruction and student application of techniques will provide opportunity for still photography and video coverage. Activities to be demonstrated include detection of contaminants, monitoring, triage and decontamination of patients as well as self-protection of responders and prevention of cross-contamination.
DEMA WMD Training Courses Coordinator Dwayne Day and TEEX instructors will be available for interviews. For a Jan. 20 agenda of class activities, call 302-222-6573.
