DELAWARE TESTS ALL

EPZ EMGERGENCY SIRENS AUGUST 14

Test EAS message will be broadcast

The Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA), along with PSEG Nuclear, will conduct a siren test of all 37 emergency sirens included in the new state-of-the-art siren system that is within 10-miles of the Salem-Hope Creek Generating Station. In addition to sounding of the sirens in the Emergency Planning Zone (EPZ), an Emergency Alert System (EAS) notice will be broadcast on local media. The testing is weather dependent.

This new system is replacing one which has been in use for more than 30 years. The new sirens feature battery back-up power and are almost maintenance free. Sirens were tested individually last week

Test of all 37 sirens is scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.:

August 14       All Sirens with Emergency Alert System (EAS) Message (Full Test)

In addition to the first full test scheduled for August 14, other tests of all or individual sirens will be conducted on the following dates:

August 18       All Sirens (Growl Test)

August 21       All Sirens with Emergency Alert System Message (Full Test)

August 24       Individual Sirens and All Sirens (Growl Test)

The Full Siren Test involves a three (3) to five (5) minutes sounding of the 37 sirens in Delaware, followed by a test message of the Emergency Alert System (EAS).

The Growl Test involves a very brief 15 second sounding of the sirens. A growl test may not be heard except in close proximity to the siren.

Should an actual emergency occur at Salem or Hope Creek Nuclear Generating Stations, sirens would alert the public to tune to one of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) stations for important emergency instructions.
