Emergency Management Training & Exercise

The Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) sponsors all-hazards training courses and exercises that are designed to cover Mitigation, Preparedness, Response and Recovery. These courses are open to those who are involved in response and those who are involved with volunteer organizations. A mix of courses, seminars, workshops and conferences can be tailored and offered at DEMA or your location. Some of the courses that DEMA offers are NIMS/ICS Combined, ICS-200,300,400, Position Specific, Hurricane Readiness, Debris Management, Weapons of Mass Destruction Awareness and Management of Spontaneous Volunteers. The DEMA Calendar of Training Activities provides a course description and enrollment form for the current offerings.

The DEMA training and exercise program provides coordination and support of course delivery to various governmental agencies involved in emergency functions related to natural hazards, technological hazards and homeland security. Training is also available to approved personnel through the Emergency Management Institute, US Fire Academy and the Office of National Training and Exercise Division. In addition, on-line independent study courses are available to the public through the Emergency Management Institute.

The Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) is the lead state agency for coordination of comprehensive emergency preparedness, training, response, recovery and mitigation services in order to save lives, protect Delaware's economic base and reduce the impact of emergencies. DEMA is a division within the Department of Safety and Homeland Security (DSHS) and is authorized by Delaware Code, Title 20,Chapter 31§3101-3130.

DEMA Training & Activity Calendar

Emergency management training is available in the State of Delaware and throughout the United States.

DEMA’s Training Calendar sponsors a mix of all hazards emergency training courses that are designed to cover Mitigation, Preparedness, Response and Recovery.

DEMA Multi-Year Exercise Program

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Preparedness Directorate’s Office of Grants and Training (G&T) requires every State and urban area conduct a Multi-Year Training and Exercise Plan Workshop (TEPW) annually. The State of Delaware Multi-Year TEP is the roadmap for the State to accomplish the priorities described in their Homeland Security Strategy.

DEMA Incident Management Team (DE IMT)

The mission of the Delaware All-Hazards Incident Management Team (DE IMT) is to provide personnel who are trained, experienced and certified as incident management specialists and organized to assist, support and coordinate emergency response, incident recovery or planned special event operations within the State of Delaware.

Emergency Management Institute Training Courses (EMI)

The Emergency Management Institute (EMI) serves as the national focal point for the development and delivery of emergency management training to enhance the capabilities of federal, state, local, and tribal government officials, volunteer organizations, and the public and private sectors to minimize the impact of disasters on the American public.

EMI curricula are structured to meet the needs of this diverse audience with an emphasis on how the various elements work together in emergencies to save lives and protect property. More information on the EMI courses and schedules here.

National Incident Management Systems (NIMS)

The NIMS Training Program defines the national NIMS training program as it relates to the NIMS components of Preparedness, Communications and Information Management, Resource Management, and Command and Management. It specifies NIC and stakeholder responsibilities and activities for developing, maintaining, and sustaining NIMS training.

The NIMS Training Program outlines responsibilities and activities that are consistent with the National Training Program, as mandated by the Post-Katrina Emergency Management Reform Act of 2006.

National Training and Education Division Programs (NTED)

National Training and Education Division (NTED) serves the nation's first responder community by offering more than 150 courses that help build the skills responders need to effectively function in mass consequence events. Course subjects range from Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) terrorism, cybersecurity, and agro-terrorism to citizen preparedness.
